Lamine Yamal Released From Spain Squad After Groin Treatment

Lamine Yamal has been released from Spain’s national team squad ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Georgia national football team and Turkey national football team.

The decision comes after the Barcelona winger underwent a radio-frequency groin procedure on Monday; the same day Spain’s training camp opened.

The procedure was carried out without prior notification to the national team’s medical staff. The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) only received the detailed medical report at 10:40 p.m. on Monday night, which recommended a rest period of 7–10 days for Yamal.

“Of course, I’m surprised,” national team coach Luis de la Fuente admitted. “You haven’t heard anything, then you find out; I don’t think it’s very normal.”

Yamal has scored six goals and provided six assists in 11 matches this season for Barcelona.

Spain currently top Group E with 12 points from four matches, having scored 15 goals without conceding. They could seal their place at the 2026 World Cup with a win over Georgia and favourable results elsewhere.
