Lady Gaga has announced the release of her concert film Lady Gaga in Harlequin Live One Night Only on YouTube. The film premieres globally on Christmas Eve at 4 p.m. Pacific Time. The announcement followed a special screening and discussion at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles.
The concert film documents a late-night performance recorded on 30 September 2024 at the Belasco Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. The show began after midnight and featured the complete Harlequin album performed live.
Why The Film Is Releasing At Christmas
During the Grammy Museum discussion, Gaga explained why the project is arriving during the Christmas period. The release will be available worldwide through her official YouTube channel.
It’s kind of a rebellious project. By Harlequin standards, Christmas is the perfect time to release something rebellious, she said.
Gaga also addressed why the concert film was held back after filming. The decision allowed time before the performance was shared publicly. Gaga later described the release as “a Christmas present”.
When we first saw the footage, we said, ‘This is not the right time to put this out,’ she said.
Creative Concept And Collaboration
The film presents a stripped-back visual setting designed to reflect Gaga’s early creative years. The performance takes place inside a deliberately rough apartment-style space.
When I met the guys that I made the record with, some of them 20 years ago, I was living in a dingy apartment on the Lower East Side, she said.
The project was developed with Gaga’s fiancé and creative partner, Michael Polansky. Gaga says it is their first musical project together.
