American Twitch streamer and content creator Kai Cenat has returned to Nigeria as part of ongoing efforts to advance his proposed $5 million education project for children from the Makoko community.
He arrived in Lagos on Wednesday, marking his second visit to the country, nearly a year after announcing plans to fund the construction of a school and orphanage. The initiative was first unveiled during his visit in March 2025, following a tour of Makoko, a waterfront settlement in Lagos.
Fundraising Progress and Project Relocation
After his initial visit, Cenat publicly committed $5 million to improving educational access for children in the area. Through fundraising on his livestreams, including donations from his Mafiathon 3 event, he has raised over $1.1 million towards the project.
Development has faced delays due to logistical challenges, including the relocation of the project site from Makoko to Yaba, Lagos. Cenat has explained that despite the move, children from Makoko will remain the primary beneficiaries and will receive free education once the school becomes operational.
Site Visit and Community Engagement
During his current stay, Cenat toured the relocated site, now identified as the Makoko Children School & Orphanage Home. He interacted with pupils and staff as part of ongoing assessments and planning for the project’s next phase.
Meeting With Lagos Governor Sanwo-Olu
Cenat also met with Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to discuss the education initiative and its implementation. During the meeting, the streamer spoke positively about Nigeria, praising the country’s hospitality, atmosphere, cuisine, and fashion culture.
He made light-hearted remarks about embracing local outfits and joked about finding a “Nigerian queen,” adding that he felt “100% love” during his time in the country.
