Justin Timberlake has filed a lawsuit to prevent Sag Harbor Village Police from releasing body camera footage of his 2024 driving while intoxicated arrest.
The lawsuit, filed on 2 March 2026, seeks an injunction against the public release of recordings requested under New York State’s Freedom of Information Law (FOIL).
The footage spans eight hours and captures Timberlake during a roadside traffic stop, field sobriety testing, and several hours spent in police custody.
Legal Team Cites Privacy And Reputational Harm
In the court petition, Timberlake’s legal team states that the footage depicts the singer in an “acutely vulnerable state,” exposing intimate details of his physical appearance, demeanour, speech, and conduct.
The petition argues that public dissemination of the footage would cause:
“severe and irreparable harm to petitioner’s personal and professional reputation, subject petitioner to public ridicule and harassment, and serve no legitimate public interest in understanding the operations of government.”
It further states:
“once the footage is released to the requestors and disseminated online or through media, the disclosure cannot be undone. Digital copies can be replicated indefinitely, beyond the court’s ability to retrieve or control, rendering any subsequent relief inadequate.”
Sag Harbor Village Responds To FOIL Request
A lawyer representing Sag Harbor Village confirmed that the municipality has received the FOIL request in full.
He stated that the village had indicated its intention to comply by releasing some of the footage, with certain redactions, based on personal privacy and law enforcement interference exemptions.
Background Of The 2024 Arrest
Timberlake was arrested shortly after midnight in June 2024 following a traffic stop in the Hamptons.
He initially faced a driving while intoxicated charge and later pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of driving while ability impaired. His sentence included 25 hours of community service and a temporary suspension of his driving licence.
