Jannik Sinner made a winning return to action on Monday, brushing aside Tomas Machac 6-1, 6-4 at the Qatar Open in Doha.
The world number two needed just 27 minutes to seal the opening set and never relinquished control in his first match since his Australian Open semi-final defeat to Novak Djokovic.
Playing in Doha for the first time, Sinner handled windy conditions comfortably, losing only six points on serve throughout the match to power into the last 16 with a clinical display.
Sinner Pleased With Performance
“Today was a little bit worse than yesterday,” Sinner told the ATP website. “But you have to adapt to every situation and condition on the court. We also played a couple of matches before, so I knew a little what to expect. I felt good on court today. Physically, I feel good. Every match is going to get tougher, so hopefully I will be ready for the next one.”
Next Opponent Confirmed
Sinner will next face Alexei Popyrin, who defeated local wildcard Mubarak Shannan Zayid 6-0, 6-2. Their head-to-head record stands level at 1-1 heading into the clash.
