Jannik Sinner began his bid to defend the ATP Finals crown in commanding fashion with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Felix Auger-Aliassime on Monday.
The win came in Turin’s Inalpi Arena and marked a strong statement of purpose by the world number one. Auger-Aliassime carried a left-calf issue in the second set and required medical attention mid-match.
“I hope it’s nothing too serious,” Sinner said. “Winning the first match is very important.” “I wish him, obviously, a very speedy recovery, and hopefully he is back to 100% physically.” Sinner added.
Sinner, who has not lost on indoor hard courts since the 2023 Finals final, extended his streak to 27 matches. He seized the opening set after trading blows and then powered through the second set.
The defending champion now leads the Björn Borg group.
