Everton midfielder Jack Grealish has confirmed his season is over after undergoing surgery on a stress fracture in his foot. The setback also dents his hopes of making England’s World Cup squad.
The 30-year-old, currently on loan from Manchester City, suffered the injury during Everton’s 1–0 Premier League win over Aston Villa last month.
Grealish’s Season Cut Short
Grealish made 22 appearances in all competitions for Everton this season, scoring two goals and providing six assists. His performances had sparked speculation of a possible England recall ahead of the World Cup.
However, the injury has now ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign.
Player Confirms Successful Operation
Grealish confirmed the news in a post on Instagram following the procedure.
“Didn’t want the season to end like this but that’s football, gutted,” he wrote.
He added that the surgery was successful and that his attention has now turned fully to recovery.
“Surgery done and now all focus on getting back fit,” Grealish said. “I know for sure I will come back fitter, stronger and better than before.”
England And World Cup Implications
Grealish last featured for England in October 2024 under caretaker manager Lee Carsley. Prior to his move to Everton, he enjoyed a trophy-laden spell at Manchester City, winning three Premier League titles, the Champions League, and the FA Cup.
The next FIFA World Cup is scheduled to run from 11 June to 19 July, hosted across Canada, Mexico and the United States, leaving Grealish with a race against time to return to full fitness.
