American streamer IShowSpeed, born Darren Jason Watkins Jr, marked his 21st birthday in Lagos on January 21, 2026, during his “Speed Does Africa” livestream tour. On the same day, he crossed 50 million YouTube subscribers, celebrating the milestone live with fans in the city.
Lagos Stops and Cultural Experiences
Speed’s Lagos visit was part of a multi-country African tour that began on December 29, 2025, aimed at showcasing local cultures to his global audience.
He began with a walk through Balogun Market, engaging with crowds and reacting to the pace of local speech. At Freedom Park, he tasted Nigerian jollof rice and weighed in on the Ghana vs Nigeria jollof debate. He also visited the Nike Art Gallery, where he wore traditional attire and watched cultural dance performances.
Hosts and Creators
Rapper Zlatan Ibile hosted Speed at his ZTTW store in Lagos to mark his birthday. Nigerian internet personality Jarvis appeared during parts of the livestream, performing her robotic skits and helping Speed navigate local slang, humour, and crowd interactions.
Live Moments and City Life
Speed paused his security convoy around 6 pm local time to watch his subscriber count reach 50 million live. He then placed his face into a birthday cake as crowds cheered.
His itinerary also included a ride on a danfo bus, which he featured on stream to highlight everyday life in Lagos.
