Ice Spice has released her debut soundtrack contribution, “Big Guy,” for the upcoming The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants. The single drop coincides with the release of the film’s official trailer release. The track, produced by Ice Spice’s frequent collaborator RiotUSA, marks her first original song for a major motion picture.
The song ties directly into the animated adventure’s theme of SpongeBob’s quest for maturity as he grows to “big guy” proportions. Director Derek Drymon described the song as “the perfect energetic anthem for SpongeBob’s growth spurt.”
This soundtrack release holds a connection to the rapper’s previous work. Her 2022 breakout single “Bikini Bottom” sampled the show’s iconic “Grass Skirt Chase” theme and peaked at No. 56 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Ice Spice expressed her enthusiasm at joining the franchise on social media, stating: “From rapping about Bikini Bottom to living it—yay! Can’t wait for everyone to dive in.”
The film, directed by SpongeBob veteran Derek Drymon, is scheduled for theatrical release on December 19. The soundtrack, composed by John Debney, will feature “Big Guy” as the end-credits closer.
