Former Chelsea and Brazil midfielder Oscar has been hospitalised after suffering cardiac complications during pre-season medical tests with his current club, São Paulo FC.

The 34-year-old was undergoing routine fitness evaluations on Monday when the issue was first detected. According to the club’s statement, medical staff from São Paulo and the affiliated Einstein Hospital Israelita, who were on-site, promptly attended to him. “The player was then taken to the hospital, where he is clinically stable and remains under observation for further tests to clarify the diagnosis,” the statement read.

Oscar rose to prominence during his stint with Chelsea FC, where he made over 200 appearances and secured two Premier League titles. He later joined Shanghai Port before returning to São Paulo in December 2024 on a three-year contract.

Medics at the hospital plan to conduct additional tests, including possible catheterisation, to determine the underlying cause and the appropriate treatment path. Until then, Oscar remains under observation and off the training field.

São Paulo has not specified a timeline for his return. The club said they will provide updates in coordination with Oscar’s family and medical team as soon as there is clarity on his condition.
