FC Barcelona pulled off a commanding 6-1 win over Olympiacos in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
López opened the scoring in the 7th minute by pouncing on a rebound after a shot from Lamine Yamal was parried by the Olympiacos goalkeeper. He then doubled his tally in the 39th minute with a finish from a lightning-quick counter-attack.
Olympiacos pulled one back via a penalty converted by Ayoub El Kaabi in the 54th minute after VAR spotted a handball, but their momentum was short-lived. Defender Santiago Hezze received a second yellow and was sent off in the 57th minute, leaving them with ten men.
Barcelona capitalised on the numerical advantage. Yamal added a penalty goal in the 68th minute. Barcelona were far from done and kept pressing for more goals. In the 74th minute, Rashford fired a precise low shot past Tzolakis. Rashford also struck in the 79th minute and López completed his hat-trick to seal the emphatic win.
“We needed a win like this ahead of Saturday’s El Clásico against Real Madrid. My first hat-trick with Barça is just a dream come true,” López said after the match.
