Fast-rising Nigerian artiste CupidSZN is embracing a major turning point in his career following his signing to Mavin Records in November. A move he describes as both motivating and defining.
For CupidSZN, joining a label with such a rich legacy isn’t just about prestige. It’s about responsibility.
Mavins has a lot of history, and to be a part of this history is motivation,” he says. “But you also have to do your best, make your own history and make use of the opportunity to tell your own story.”
CupidSZN On Mavin Records And Pressure
When asked about the pressure that comes with big labels, CupidSZN said he embraces it head-on.
No pressure because pressure makes diamonds. We’re built for that, he adds confidently.
He views the expectations as part of growth, noting that the opportunity comes with a responsibility to deliver and stand out within the label’s legacy.
CupidSZN On Talent, Social Media And Industry Realities
In an era dominated by TikTok virality and social media algorithms, CupidSZN believes talent still matters, but not in isolation. According to him, today’s music industry is a mix of grace, hard work, visibility, and support.
We’re in 2025 where apps like TikTok and other social media allow you to show your talent. Anything can happen and you can just skyrocket,” he explains. “But having support like a label helps with funding
He points out the realities independent artists face, often competing with label-backed acts who have bigger budgets and wider reach.
If you have a label plus talent and hard work, you can cross boundaries internationally, he says. Summing it up simply as “God, grace, your talent, hard work, and obviously some backing.
CupidSZN On Collaboration And African Music
Despite the industry being packed with talent, CupidSZN doesn’t see rivalry as fuel; collaboration is.
No competition. Collaboration is what got me far,” he says. “If we collaborate more in Africa, we can push the sound globally.
His collaboration wish list includes Victony, Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Rema, Omah Lay, and Tiwa Savage. He added that he would be honoured if D’banj ever “blesses the boy with just a verse.”
CupidSZN On His Catalogue And Myth Era
Asked to reflect on his catalogue, CupidSZN refuses to label any of his songs as overrated or underrated.
I don’t think any of my songs are overrated,” he says. “Every song served its purpose. The people who connected to it did, and the ones that didn’t connected to other songs.
With his debut project under Mavin Records generating buzz, CupidSZN said:
The project is an introduction to CupidSZN. It’s just the tip of the iceberg, but it’s a full package.
He promises diversity, intention, and depth.
Every song is different. Every song has its own message. It shows how diverse CupidSZN can be.
As he urges fans to stream his EP Myth Era, CupidSZN adds:
This is only the beginning. We have a lot more coming.
