Chelsea have parted ways with head coach Enzo Maresca following a sharp downturn in form that has derailed the club’s Premier League title push. The decision was confirmed on Thursday, just two months after Maresca was named Manager of the Month for November. Chelsea said the results and the need to reset their season prompted the move.
Reasons For The Decision
In a statement, the club said;
With key objectives still to play for across four competitions, Enzo and the club believe a change gives the team the best chance of getting the season back on track.
Chelsea have slipped to fifth in the table, 15 points behind leaders Arsenal.
Maresca joined in 2024 after leading Leicester City to promotion. He enjoyed early success, guiding Chelsea to a fourth-place finish, Champions League qualification, the Conference League title, and the Club World Cup in his first season.
Recent Struggles
This campaign unravelled in December. Chelsea won just one of their last seven league matches, while tensions grew off the pitch. After a recent win over Everton, Maresca spoke openly about a lack of support from fans.
His final game in charge was a 2-2 home draw with Bournemouth on Tuesday, which ended amid boos and chants from supporters. Chelsea is expected to announce an interim replacement in the coming days.
