Manchester United confirmed on Thursday that midfielder Casemiro will leave the club at the end of the season when his contract expires. Although the 33-year-old had a one-year extension option, United chose not to activate it as part of their long-term squad overhaul.
“I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life,” the Brazilian said. “From the first day that I walked out at this beautiful stadium, I felt the passion of Old Trafford and the love that I now share with our supporters of this special club.”
Impact At Old Trafford
Casemiro joined United from Real Madrid in August 2022 for around £60 million and quickly became a central figure in midfield. The five-time Champions League winner scored 21 goals in 146 appearances.
He was instrumental in United’s 2023 Carabao Cup triumph, scoring in the 2-0 final win over Newcastle United. He was also part of the FA Cup-winning side in 2024.
Focus On The Present
Despite his impending departure, Casemiro stressed his focus remains firmly on the present.
“It’s not time to say goodbye; there are many more memories to create during the next four months,” he said.
United sit fifth in the Premier League. They are 15 points behind leaders Arsenal, whom they face on Sunday.
