The Confederation of African Football has postponed the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations just 12 days before the start of the competition in Morocco.
The competition had originally been scheduled to take place between March 17 and April 3.
New Tournament Dates Announced
The continental governing body confirmed the decision to delay the competition in a statement on Thursday. The tournament will now take place from July 25 to August 16, 2026.
CAF said the adjustment followed consultations with FIFA and other stakeholders.
“After discussions between CAF and its partners, FIFA and other stakeholders, CAF decided to reschedule the dates of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2026 to 25 July – 16 August 2026 to ensure the success of this important women’s competition,” the body said.
The reason for the postponement was not disclosed.

CAF added that preparations for the tournament were ongoing and expressed confidence that the event would meet expectations.
“Preparations for the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2026 are underway and all the parties are confident that it will be very successful,” the statement added.
Pathway to the 2027 Women’s World Cup
The tournament will also serve as Africa’s qualifiers for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
Four semi-finalists will earn automatic qualification spots, while another African team will have a chance to qualify through an intercontinental play-off.
