Brentford secured a commanding 2–0 victory over West Ham United at London Stadium on Monday. The defeat marked a record fourth consecutive home league loss for the Hammers.
The visitors broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute when Kevin Schade collected a long ball on the edge of the box, held off three defenders and fed Igor Thiago, whose shot deflected past keeper Alphonse Areola. Brentford wrapped up the win in stoppage time as Mathias Jensen was found unmarked in the box and drilled a low finish from 15 yards for the second.
Brentford recorded a club-record 22 attempts in an away league match. West Ham on the other hand looked disjointed throughout the game and struggled to find rhythm. Thousands of seats at London Stadium remained empty during the match as fans staged a protest against the club’s executive leadership.
“It’s very nice to get the three points and get away from the relegation zone,” midfielder Mikkel Damsgaard said. “We missed a lot of chances… but we are finding a rhythm as a team and connecting a bit more.” West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen admitted the performance was sub-par: “It was 2–0 but probably could have been more to them… We are not doing anything well this season.”
With the win, Brentford moved up to 13th with 10 points from eight games. West Ham remained 19th with just four points and eight fixtures played.
