Hosts Morocco booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations with a narrow 1–0 win over Tanzania on Sunday, thanks to a decisive strike from Brahim Diaz.
Match Highlight
Diaz scored his fourth goal of the tournament in the 64th minute. Captain Achraf Hakimi threaded a pass into the Real Madrid midfielder, who drove towards the byline before firing a powerful shot from a tight angle past goalkeeper Aishi Manula.
Morocco created several chances before breaking the deadlock. Ismael Saibari had a header ruled out for offside, while Ayoub El Kaabi missed twice — first heading wide, then failing to connect with a Hakimi cross. Hakimi also rattled the woodwork with a second-half free kick as the hosts pushed for control.
Tanzania was not without chances and will regret missed opportunities. Simon Msuva headed wide with the goal at his mercy early on, while Feisal Salum blazed over from close range after the break.
It was not easy. The competition is heating up, and Tanzania were very tough. Not everything worked, but we managed to qualify.
Diaz said after the match.
Morocco now awaits the winner of the South Africa–Cameroon clash in the quarter-finals.
