Borussia Dortmund snapped a three-match winless streak with a commanding 4-0 victory over Villarreal CF at Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday night.
The scoring began in the final moments before half-time when Serhou Guirassy powered home a header from a corner to hand Dortmund a crucial 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Dortmund defender Juan Foyth handled a goal-bound ball from Karim Adeyemi inside the box. Guirassy struck the penalty, saw it saved, then reacted fastest to slot in the rebound, making it 2-0.
Just three minutes later, Adeyemi added a third when a back-heeled pass from Julian Brandt deflected off a defender and looped over the keeper.
Dortmund sealed the rout deep in stoppage time, as Daniel Svensson rose to head in a cross, ending the night 4-0.
The result lifts Dortmund to fourth place in their Champions League group on 10 points. They are now level with Chelsea FC and Manchester City. Meanwhile, Villarreal remain with just one point.
