FK Bodø/Glimt delivered a dominant performance to defeat Sporting CP 3–0 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie on Wednesday.
Bodø/Glimt Take Control
Sporting nearly struck early when Luis Suárez fired over the bar, but the hosts soon took control of the match.
Bodø/Glimt went ahead just after the half-hour mark when Giorgos Vagiannidis fouled Sondre Brunstad Fet inside the box. After a VAR check, Fet calmly converted the resulting penalty to give the Norwegian side the lead.
Blomberg Doubles the Advantage
The hosts doubled their lead before halftime. Jens Petter Hauge’s through ball deflected kindly into the path of Ole Didrik Blomberg, who produced a superb finish from a tight angle to make it 2–0.
Sporting attempted to respond after the break but struggled to create clear chances against a disciplined Bodø/Glimt defence.
Høgh Seals Dominant Victory
Bodø/Glimt continued to dominate and added a third goal in the 71st minute. Danish striker Kasper Høgh slipped between two defenders to steer Hauge’s low cross into the net from close range.
The result sealed the Norwegian side’s fifth consecutive win in the competition.
Hauge Reacts After the Match
“It was fun to play again, a fantastic round of 16 game,” Hauge told reporters after the match.
“We still have a long way to go, but the result is fantastic… we are halfway there. They are a good team with many good players, but we are also a fantastic team.”
The two teams will meet again for the second leg in Lisbon next Tuesday.
