Tragedy has struck the family of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Josephine Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, as her younger sister, Ruth Otabor, has died following injuries sustained in a road accident involving a Dangote truck.
The incident occurred on August 13, 2025, near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State, barely a week after Ruth had graduated from the institution. Witnesses alleged that the truck driver fled the scene after knocking her down.
Ruth initially survived the crash but suffered severe injuries, including the amputation of one leg and damage to the other, alongside head and hand injuries. She was undergoing treatment when her condition worsened.

Despite initial promises from Dangote Group to fund her medical care and fly her abroad for further treatment, Phyna later accused the company of failing to keep to its word. She took to social media to call out the group, saying her family had been left stranded while her sister’s health deteriorated.
On August 31, 2025, Ruth was confirmed dead at around 6:30 a.m., according to a statement issued by the family through their lawyers, Eko Solicitors & Advocates. They requested privacy while mourning their loss.
The heartbreaking news has sparked outrage and calls for accountability, with many Nigerians, including celebrities like Kate Henshaw, demanding justice for Ruth.
The family is expected to announce burial arrangements soon, while legal representatives say they will continue to press Dangote Group for answers and compensation.
