Bad Bunny Explains Meaning Of “64” Jersey At Super Bowl

Bad Bunny has revealed the deeply personal meaning behind the jersey he wore during his Super Bowl LX halftime performance.

The artiste, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, appeared on stage in a custom cream-white jersey bearing the name “OCASIO” and the number 64. The piece formed part of an all-cream ensemble styled by Zara and featured throughout his performance.

Jersey Honours Late Uncle

In separate interviews with Rolling Stone, Complex, and The Cut, Bad Bunny explained that the jersey was a tribute to his late uncle, Cutito Ocasio, his mother’s brother.

He revealed that the number 64 represents 1964, the year his uncle was born.

“The little I know about the NFL is thanks to him,” Bad Bunny said, recalling how his uncle introduced him to American football while he was growing up in Puerto Rico.

A Lifelong Love For American Football

According to the singer, Cutito was a devoted San Francisco 49ers fan who moved to the United States mainland at age 17 for work. Despite relocating, he regularly returned to Puerto Rico during football season and shared his passion for the sport with family members.

Bad Bunny disclosed that his uncle died unexpectedly two years ago, shortly after the 49ers lost the 2024 Super Bowl.

“I Decided To Have Him On My Shirt”

The Grammy-winning artiste said he had always dreamed of attending a Super Bowl with his uncle but never got the chance.

“I always dreamed of taking my uncle to a Super Bowl, and I couldn’t,” he said. “So during my Super Bowl halftime show, I decided to have him on my shirt.”

Bad Bunny added that he dedicated the performance to his uncle before stepping onto the Super Bowl stage.
