Australian Open-Sinner and Djokovic in Same Half

Two-time defending champion Jannik Sinner and 10-time Australian Open winner Novak Djokovic have been drawn in the same half of the 2026 Australian Open, setting up a potential semi-final clash.

A Tough Road Ahead

Sinner acknowledged the challenge of the draw, saying:

“The draw is very difficult… the way is very, very long and very far.”

If both players advance through their opening five matches, they will meet in the semi-finals. Sinner currently leads their head-to-head rivalry 6–4.

History on the Line

Sinner is chasing his fifth Grand Slam title, while 38-year-old Djokovic is aiming for a record-breaking 25th major singles crown, which would move him ahead of Margaret Court.

Sinner opens against Hugo Gaston, while Djokovic faces Pedro Martinez in round one.

Other Top Seed Action

World number one Carlos Alcaraz begins his campaign against Australian wildcard Adam Walton. The Spaniard is seeking his first Australian Open title after quarter-final finishes in 2024 and 2025.

The tournament gets underway on Sunday.
