ATP Finals: Carlos Alcaraz Defeats Taylor Fritz

Carlos Alcaraz edged a dramatic 6-7(2), 7-5, 6-3 victory over Taylor Fritz on Tuesday at the ATP Finals in Turin.

The win extends his unblemished start to the tournament and moving into commanding position in the Jimmy Connors Group.

Fritz charged out of the blocks, taking the first set in a dominant tiebreak where he led 5-1 before finishing 7-2.

Alcaraz appeared under serious pressure early, admitting: “I was struggling more than him in the first set. I wasn’t serving well, and I think he was pretty comfortable from the baseline, from everywhere.”

In the second set, Alcaraz regrouped and found his rhythm. He held firm under break-point pressure and secured a key net-cord winner to edge 7-5. From there, he broke Fritz early in the third set and sealed the win with a 6-3 finish, serving out to love after 2 hours and 48 minutes of top-level tennis.

“I was really relieved after the win because of everything I went through during the match,” Alcaraz said.

“I wasn’t feeling the ball as well as I was in the first round, but I’m really happy that I found a way to come back.”
