Somtochukwu “Sommie” Maduagwu, 29, a journalist with ARISE News, has died following an armed robbery at her apartment in Katampe, Abuja, on September 29, 2025.

Reports say about 15 armed robbers attacked her residence early Monday morning. Fearing for her life, Sommie reportedly jumped from the third floor of her apartment. She was rushed to Maitama General Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The FCT Police confirmed that officers responded to the distress call but arrived too late to prevent the incident. While authorities stated emergency procedures were followed, some witnesses and colleagues criticized delays at the hospital and alleged slow police response.
