Reports say about 15 armed robbers attacked her residence early Monday morning. Fearing for her life, Sommie reportedly jumped from the third floor of her apartment. She was rushed to Maitama General Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The FCT Police confirmed that officers responded to the distress call but arrived too late to prevent the incident. While authorities stated emergency procedures were followed, some witnesses and colleagues criticized delays at the hospital and alleged slow police response.

Sommie’s family, friends, and ARISE News have called for a thorough investigation and prosecution of those responsible. The incident has also reignited discussions on security and the safety of professionals in Abuja.

President Bola Tinubu reportedly expressed shock at the tragedy and urged a prompt investigation. The FCT Police Command has deployed a special task force to investigate the robbery.

Sommie Maduagwu’s death is a tragic reminder of the urgent need for improved security and rapid emergency response in Nigeria.
