Two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua was injured but survived a fatal road accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway that claimed the lives of two members of his training team.
Joshua was a passenger in an SUV that crashed into a stationary commercial truck while overtaking. The accident occurred on the busy expressway, leaving the vehicle badly damaged. Five adult men were involved in the crash.
Fatalities and Their Condition
A spokesperson for Joshua confirmed that Sina Ghami and Kevin “Latif” Ayodele died from injuries sustained in the accident. Both were described as close friends and integral members of the boxer’s team.
Joshua was rescued from the wreckage by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) with help from bystanders. In the absence of an ambulance, survivors were transported in a security vehicle. Authorities said Joshua was conscious and stable after the crash.
Official Response & Reactions

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed condolences to the victims’ families and wished Joshua a speedy recovery, describing him as a “source of national pride.” Jake Paul also sent a message of support, stressing that life is more important than boxing.
