AFCON - Cameroon Edge Mozambique to Reach Last 16

Cameroon came from behind to beat Mozambique 2–1 on Wednesday, sealing second place in Group F and booking a spot in the Africa Cup of Nations round of 16.

Match Highlight

Mozambique shocked the five-time champions by taking the lead in the 23rd minute. Geny Catamo fired a powerful low strike from outside the box to put his side ahead and briefly on course for a famous result.

The Indomitable Lions hit back just five minutes later in unusual fashion. Frank Magri’s effort deflected off fallen fullback Nene and looped into the Mozambique net for an own goal that restored parity before halftime.

After squandering several chances, Cameroon found the winner in the 55th minute. Teenage forward Christian Kofane unleashed a stunning long-range effort to make it 2–1. The Bayer Leverkusen youngster was making only his second senior international appearance.

Group Implications

Cameroon finished level on seven points with Ivory Coast but settled for second place on goal difference. They will face South Africa in the last 16. Mozambique also progressed as one of the best third-placed teams and are set to meet Nigeria in the knockout round.
