Algeria wrapped up the Africa Cup of Nations group stage with a flawless record after a convincing 3–1 victory over Equatorial Guinea on Wednesday, finishing Group E with maximum points.
Match Highlight
Already assured of the top spot, Algeria still delivered a dominant display to make it three wins from three and book their place in the last 16 with confidence.
The Desert Warriors struck early. Belaid opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a glancing header from Anis Hadj Moussa’s corner. Six minutes later, Ibrahim Maza turned provider, releasing Farès Chaibi, who cut inside and fired low into the net.
Maza capped an impressive first half by heading in Algeria’s third in the 32nd minute, again from a Hadj Moussa delivery. Equatorial Guinea briefly threatened after the break when veteran striker Emilio Nsue scored from long range in the 50th minute. However, it proved only a consolation as Algeria remained firmly in control.
Algeria rotated several regulars but never lost rhythm, with goalkeeper Jesus Owono preventing a heavier defeat with key first-half saves. The win also erased memories of Algeria’s shock loss to Equatorial Guinea at the 2021 finals.
Group Standings
Algeria finished top of Group E with nine points. Burkina Faso claimed second place, while Sudan advanced as one of the best third-placed teams. Equatorial Guinea exited the tournament without a point.
