Hosts Morocco launched their Africa Cup of Nations campaign with authority, defeating Comoros 2–0 on Sunday in Rabat to secure all three points in Group A.

Morocco dominated possession early but were denied by a 10th-minute penalty save from Comoros goalkeeper Yannick Pandor. The deadlock was broken in the 55th minute when Noussair Mazraoui’s cross found Brahim Diaz, who finished calmly from close range.

Ayoub El Kaabi, introduced as a substitute, sealed the win in the 74th minute with a spectacular overhead kick from an Anass Salah-Eddine assist, ending Comoros’ resistance on a wet, cold night.

Coach Walid Regragui rested captain Achraf Hakimi and had to make an early substitution after Romain Saiss was forced off with an injury. The win extended Morocco’s unbeaten run to 19 matches and reinforced their position as Africa’s top-ranked team.
Morocco will face Mali on Friday. In other Group B matches, South Africa takes on Angola, and Egypt begins their campaign against Zimbabwe on Monday.
