Defending champions Ivory Coast opened their AFCON title defence with a narrow 1–0 victory over Mozambique, thanks to Amad Diallo’s second-half goal.
Match Highlights
Ivory Coast dominated possession in wet conditions but struggled to break down a disciplined Mozambique side before the break. The breakthrough arrived in the 49th minute when Diallo side-footed home from close range to beat goalkeeper Ernan.
The Ivorians could have sealed the match earlier. Wilfried Zaha missed several chances on his return, while Franck Kessie and Vakoun Bayo were also denied.
Mozambique introduced 42-year-old Dominguez, the oldest outfield player in AFCON history. Ivory Coast secured a winning start ahead of tougher tests against Cameroon and Gabon.
