Riyad Mahrez scored twice as Algeria began their AFCON campaign with a comfortable 3–0 win over Sudan on Wednesday.
Match Highlights
Algeria scored inside two minutes. Baghdad Bounedjah found Hicham Boudaoui, who teed up Mahrez with a neat backheel for a calm close-range finish. Sudan’s task worsened in the 39th minute when Salahedin Adil was sent off for a second booking.
The captain doubled the lead just after the hour, controlling a clever outside-of-the-boot pass from Mohamed Amoura before slotting home with ease.
Substitute Ibrahim Maza wrapped up the win in the 85th minute, heading in after Bounedjah’s knockdown. It was the 20-year-old’s first international goal. Sudan goalkeeper Monged Elneel denied Adil Boulbina twice late on to prevent further damage
Group E Standings
The victory sends Algeria to the top of Group E on three points, ahead of Burkina Faso on goal difference. The two sides meet in Rabat on Sunday.
