Adele Makes Acting Debut

In a major creative shift, singer Adele step into acting as she leads the main cast of Tom Ford’s new film “Cry to Heaven”.

Ford’s film adapts Anne Rice’s novel set in eighteenth-century Italy. The story follows two boys forced into opera training after being castrated at a young age to preserve their soprano voices. One grows into a teacher, while the other develops a plan to confront the father who controls his life.

Adele appears in a cast that includes Hunter Schafer, Colin Firth, Ciarán Hinds and Lux Pascal. Cry to Heaven is Ford’s first film since “Nocturnal Animals” in 2016.

Adele had mentioned that she wanted to act only when the right role arrived. She hinted in 2023 that she waited for a particular filmmaker to write a script she admired. She gave no titles at the time but stated that she believed she could deliver a strong performance.

The singer also stated that films about the lives of music stars limit her interest, as they create difficult comparisons, especially if she had to sing in someone else’s voice. She explained that most acting offers she received centred on that single category.

The film is set to be released in 2026.
