Raphinha scored a hat-trick as FC Barcelona defeated Sevilla FC 5–2 on Sunday to remain four points clear at the top of La Liga.
Despite resting regular starters including Lamine Yamal and Fermín López ahead of a midweek UEFA Champions League tie with Newcastle United, Barcelona dominated the contest.
Raphinha Opens the Scoring
The hosts took the lead after nine minutes when Djibril Sow fouled João Cancelo in the box.
Raphinha chipped a confident penalty down the middle past goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos.
Barcelona Extend Their Lead
Raphinha doubled the lead in the 21st minute with another penalty after VAR spotted a handball by José Ángel Carmona.
Dani Olmo added a third goal before halftime, though Sevilla pulled one back through academy winger Oso.
Hat-Trick Seals Dominant Display
Raphinha completed his hat-trick shortly after the break when his shot deflected off Nemanja Gudelj and looped over the goalkeeper.
Cancelo later made it five with a composed finish, effectively ending the contest.
Gavi Returns From Injury
Barcelona also welcomed the return of Gavi, who came off the bench for his first appearance since undergoing knee surgery in August.
“It’s been really tough, I’ve had a pretty hard time in a recovery process which has been really painful,” he told reporters.
“Being here today, with a win and in front of our fans is special. What I’m feeling right now is unique, and I’m very happy.”
La Liga Standings
Barcelona moved to 70 points, staying ahead of Real Madrid on 66 points, with Atlético Madrid further back on 57.
