Lil Nas X Seeks Diversion In Police Battery Case

Lil Nas X, born Montero Lamar Hill, appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court regarding his ongoing felony police battery case.

His attorney, Christy O’Connor, informed the court that she intends to file a motion to transfer the case into a diversion program, which could result in dismissal of charges if completed successfully.

Court Grants Delay for Diversion Motion

The judge granted a short delay to allow the motion to be filed and scheduled the next hearing for April 6, 2026.

Diversion programs in California offer defendants an opportunity to complete court-approved treatment or rehabilitation instead of going to trial, potentially allowing them to avoid conviction.

Arrest and Charges

The legal matter stems from Lil Nas X’s arrest in August 2025, when Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to reports of a man walking in traffic on Ventura Boulevard.

Police alleged that Lil Nas X charged at them, leading to his custody. He was subsequently hospitalized and later released.

Prosecutors filed four felony counts:

  • Three counts of battery with injury on a police officer
  • One count of resisting an executive officer

Lil Nas X has pleaded not guilty. Bail conditions included weekly reporting and attendance at counselling.

Artist Speaks to Fans

Following the March 12 hearing, Lil Nas X addressed fans outside the courthouse, expressing appreciation for their support.

“I really love, and I miss you, and I appreciate your support so much, and I can’t wait to be back hugging you guys.”

Legal Strategy Moving Forward

The diversion program motion represents the current strategy of the artist’s legal team.

If approved and successfully completed, the charges could be dismissed. Otherwise, conviction on the felony counts could carry significant legal penalties under California law.
