Liverpool F.C. reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup with a 3-1 away victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. on Friday.
Andy Robertson scored once and set up another in the second half at Molineux Stadium.
Goalless First Half
The visitors, beaten 2-1 by Wolves in the Premier League earlier in the week, struggled to break down the hosts in a goalless first half.
Liverpool Take Control After the Break
Liverpool finally broke the deadlock six minutes after the restart when Mohamed Salah and Curtis Jones combined on a counter-attack before Robertson drilled a low shot across goal and into the net.
Robertson turned provider two minutes later. He fired the ball across the face of goal for Salah to finish from close range. The strike was initially checked by VAR for offside before being confirmed.
Jones Extends Lead
Jones added a third in the 74th minute before Hwang Hee-chan pulled one back for Wolves in stoppage time.
“We know we let ourselves down on Tuesday… it was up to us to go and put it right,” Robertson told reporters.
“We are trying to fight on all fronts… if we play like we did tonight, nobody wants to play against us.”
“We are trying to fight on all fronts! we are still in two cup competitions, and if we play like we did tonight then nobody wants to play against us. We have to start showing that consistency,” Robertson added.
Busy Schedule Ahead for Liverpool
Liverpool now face a busy week, travelling to face Galatasaray S.K. in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, 10 March, before returning to domestic action against Tottenham Hotspur F.C. on 15 March.
They are sixth on the table with 48 points.
Wolves Struggle at Bottom of Table
Wolves, on the other hand, remain at the bottom of the table with only 16 points as they face Brentford F.C. on 16 March.
Post-Match Reactions
Liverpool manager Arne Slot spoke after the match:
“Every three days I have a different feeling. Three days ago my feeling was completely different to now. Good to be in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. In three-four days away, another big game in Istanbul.”
Wolves coach Rob Edwards said during his post-match press conference:
“Not a tough one to take, the better team won. They were really good and it was hard for us. I’ve got no qualms or excuses, their level was excellent and they deserved to win. We tried to stay in it and at half-time, we were relatively happy. The most frustrating thing for me was the timing of the second goal and the kick-off.”
