Tottenham Defeat to Crystal Palace Deepens Relegation Fears

Tottenham Hotspur edged closer to the Premier League relegation zone on Thursday after suffering a 3–1 home defeat to Crystal Palace. The result extends their winless league run to 11 matches.

Solanke Gives Tottenham an Early Lead

Striker Dominic Solanke gave Tottenham the lead against the run of play in the 34th minute. The goal raised hopes of a first league victory of 2026.

However, the match turned before half-time after defender Micky van de Ven was sent off for hauling down Ismaila Sarr in the penalty area.

Sarr converted the resulting penalty to level the score.

Palace Take Control Late in the Match

Jørgen Strand Larsen and Sarr struck again in stoppage time to secure victory for Crystal Palace.

Tudor Remains Optimistic

Interim manager Igor Tudor remained optimistic despite the setback.

“It was two games, after the red card it was a different game. The second half we tried and I saw interesting things,” Tudor told reporters.

“After this game I believe more than before… I saw some good energy and passion and fight.”

Glasner Praises Palace Response

Meanwhile, Palace manager Oliver Glasner praised his side’s reaction.

“What I loved most is the reaction after we conceded the goal,” he said.

Tottenham Face Difficult Fixtures Ahead

Tottenham were last relegated from the top flight in 1977. They now face a difficult run of fixtures including a league trip to Liverpool FC and a UEFA Champions League clash with Atlético Madrid.

The loss leaves Tottenham 16th with 29 points from 29 matches, just one point above both Nottingham Forest and West Ham United.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace climbed to 13th with 38 points.
