Bottom club Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. produced a stunning upset as Andre’s 94th-minute winner sealed a 2-1 victory over Liverpool F.C. at Molineux.
The Brazilian’s strike deflected off Joe Gomez in added time to spark wild celebrations and condemn Arne Slot’s side to a fifth injury-time defeat of the Premier League season.
First Half Struggles
The first half was a largely drab affair as Liverpool dominated possession but hardly threatened Wolves goalkeeper José Sá.
Second Half Drama
The contest burst into life after the break when Wolves’ Tolu Arokodare held off Virgil van Dijk and fed Rodrigo Gomes, who delicately lifted the ball over Alisson Becker.
Seventeen-year-old Rio Ngumoha struck the post within a minute for Liverpool. However, it was not until the 83rd minute that the visitors equalised.
Jean Ricner-Bellegarde gifted possession to Mohamed Salah, who ended his Premier League goal drought with his first since November.
Andre’s Decisive Moment
Andre delivered the decisive blow for Wolves deep into stoppage time. His effort took a touch off Gomez, wrong-footing Alisson and sending Molineux into raptures.
It was only Wolves’ third league win of the campaign, their second consecutive victory.
League Implications
The defeat leaves Liverpool fifth, squandering the chance to climb level on 51 points with third-placed Manchester United F.C. and fourth-placed Aston Villa F.C..
Wolves remain bottom of the table, still 11 points from safety. The sides meet again at Molineux on Friday in the FA Cup fifth round.
