Manchester United rallied to beat 10-man Crystal Palace 2-1 on Sunday and moved into third place in the Premier League.
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes scored a penalty and provided the decisive cross. The victory extended interim manager Michael Carrick’s unbeaten run to seven matches.
Palace Take Early Control
Palace stunned Old Trafford early. Maxence Lacroix powered in a header from a corner after just four minutes.
The visitors dominated the opening stages and nearly doubled their lead through Daniel Munoz. However, goalkeeper Senne Lammens produced a crucial save to keep United within reach before halftime.
Fernandes Inspires The Comeback
United’s response came after the break. Fernandes converted from the penalty spot in the 57th minute after Lacroix fouled Matheus Cunha. The offence also earned the defender a red card following a VAR review.
Eight minutes later, Benjamin Sesko completed the turnaround. He rose to head home Fernandes’ pinpoint cross, sparking celebrations among the home supporters.
“It feels like a big result, we were behind and had to show some character,” Fernandes told reporters.
“There are a lot of games to go still and it is important that we don’t feel that we are in the position that we need to be. We need to make as many points as we can.”
Carrick also praised his team’s resilience, saying:
“Being in that position and how we react and showing that personality and the belief… to then come back like we did is the biggest thing for me today.”
Glasner Reacts As Palace Slip To 14th
Palace manager Oliver Glasner admitted the red card proved decisive after a strong start from his side.
“It feels that there was more possible today,” he said. “The red card changed again completely… and the second goal just happened too quickly.”
The defeat left Palace in 14th place on 35 points. Meanwhile, United are on 51 points from 28 games.
