Teyana Taylor has opened up about her decision to step away from music and pursue a career in acting.
In a recent interview with Time magazine, Taylor reflected on leaving the music industry in 2020 after feeling unsupported in her career.
“Everybody told me it was dumb,” she said. “And I was like, ‘No, I am going to be a great actress. One day, I am going to be a great director.’”
Building an Acting Career
Since shifting her focus, Taylor has appeared in several major productions, including “Coming 2 America”, “White Men Can’t Jump”, and “One Battle After Another”.
Her portrayal of Perfidia in “One Battle After Another” earned her a first-time Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
Oscar Recognition
Speaking about the nomination, Taylor described it as a victory in itself.
“Even if I go home empty-handed, I have won,” she said.
She also revealed that awards season has helped her build a friendship with fellow nominee Jacob Elordi, whom she described as her “awards season bestie”.
“We’re young, we’re blessed, we’re being celebrated, this is the time to be happy and to have fun with it,” she said, adding that some people in the industry take the space too seriously.
Ambition for EGOT Status
Looking ahead, Taylor shared ambitions beyond acting. She expressed her desire to achieve EGOT status in the future.
“I would love the EGOT. And if I don’t get that Tony, guess what that T is gonna stand for? Teyana.”
Her comments highlight a renewed focus on long-term goals as she continues to expand her presence in film and entertainment.
