Arsenal tightened their grip on the Premier League title race with a commanding 4-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, moving five points clear of second-placed Manchester City with 10 games remaining.
Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyokeres starred for Mikel Arteta’s side, with Gyokeres netting twice as Arsenal secured their biggest league win at Tottenham since 1978.
First-Half Exchanges
Eze, who had not scored since his November hat-trick in the reverse fixture, opened the scoring in the 32nd minute with an athletic volley.
Randal Kolo Muani responded just two minutes later, capitalising on a Declan Rice error to draw Spurs level.
Second-Half Dominance
Arsenal regained control after the break. Gyokeres restored their lead early in the second half before Eze struck again from close range in the 61st minute.
Gyokeres added a stoppage-time fourth goal to complete a dominant derby performance.
Title Race Implications
The victory eased pressure on Arsenal following successive draws against Brentford and Wolves, which had raised questions about their staying power at the top.
Manchester City’s win over Newcastle United had tightened the race, but Arsenal responded emphatically.
“Really happy, really proud about how we approached the game,” Arteta said. “The initiative and the quality we showed to come here and win the game. This is the Premier League, it will go all the way for sure. Ten games in the Premier League is a long way.”
Arsenal now have 61 points from 28 matches, while City sit on 56 with a game in hand.
Spurs’ Struggles Continue
Tottenham’s new manager, Igor Tudor, endured a difficult debut as Spurs slipped to 16th place, four points above the relegation zone. They are now winless in their last nine league matches.
“We thought the derby could give us something more, of mentality and motivation, but there are things that you cannot change in three or four training sessions,” Tudor admitted.
