Alcaraz Beats Rublev To Reach Qatar Open Final

World number one Carlos Alcaraz defeated defending champion Andrey Rublev 7-6(3), 6-4 to reach the Qatar Open final. The victory marked his 11th straight win of the season and his 12th final appearance in his last 13 tournaments.

Rublev Pushes, But Alcaraz Holds Firm

Rublev battled back from 3-0 down in the second set to level and saved five match points. However, Alcaraz sealed the win on his sixth opportunity when the Russian’s backhand drifted wide.

The Spaniard had earlier edged a tense first-set tiebreak after both players exchanged two breaks apiece.

Alcaraz Reflects On Performance

“I know what I’m able to do every time that I step on court. For me it’s great,” said the 22-year-old.

“The way I’m approaching every match, I’m just really proud about it. I’m trying to be better at that… it’s paying off. All the focus and attention. I’m just happy and proud about myself with how I’m getting better and getting mature, I guess.”

Frustration And Turning Points

Rublev struggled with 14 unforced backhand errors in the opening set but countered with precise forehands that repeatedly clipped the baseline. Frustration boiled over in the tiebreak as he smashed his racket against his knee, snapping a string, before Alcaraz closed out the set with a disguised forehand winner down the line.

Alcaraz broke twice to lead 5-3 in the second set. Despite briefly surrendering a break while serving for the match, he responded immediately to regain control.

Final Showdown Awaits

Alcaraz will face Arthur Fils, the winner of the second semifinal, in the final scheduled for 7pm Qatar time.
