Manchester United substitute Benjamin Sesko scored a dramatic 96th-minute equaliser to snatch a 1-1 Premier League draw against West Ham United on Tuesday night.
Tomas Soucek had given the hosts a deserved lead five minutes into the second half. He ghosted into the six-yard box to convert Jarrod Bowen’s low cross. West Ham appeared on course for a vital win until Sesko’s composed finish deep into stoppage time silenced the London Stadium.
United Struggle For Fluency
United struggled for rhythm, managing just three shots on target, as West Ham kept chances to a minimum and threatened on the counter.
Casemiro had a goal ruled out for offside, while substitute Joshua Zirkzee headed narrowly wide before United’s late surge finally paid off.
Dramatic Equaliser In Stoppage Time
The equaliser arrived when Bryan Mbeumo drilled a low ball into the box, and Sesko met it with a superb volley.
The late strike preserved United’s place in the top four with 45 points from 26 matches. Meanwhile, West Ham moved to 24 points, two above the relegation zone.
Carrick Drops First Points In Charge
The result ended United’s run of four straight league wins and saw interim manager Michael Carrick drop his first points in charge.
“We were definitely not at our best and I’m a little frustrated,” he told reporters. “It’s a tough place to come and we didn’t have that sharpness to find the answers.”
