Ademola Lookman delivered a sensational debut for Atletico Madrid on Thursday, scoring and providing an assist in a commanding 5-0 victory over Real Betis. The win sends Atletico into the Copa del Rey semi-finals. The Nigerian international had only completed his move from Atalanta earlier in the week.

Atletico Dominate Early Through Hancko And Simeone

Atletico took control early and opened the scoring after 12 minutes. Captain Koke’s pinpoint corner was met by David Hancko, whose powerful header beat Betis goalkeeper Adrian.

The visitors doubled their advantage in the 30th minute through Giuliano Simeone, who finished a flowing move involving Matteo Ruggeri, Alex Baena, and Lookman.

Lookman Scores Stunning Debut Goal

Lookman capped an impressive first-half performance with a goal of his own in the 37th minute. The former African Footballer of the Year muscled past one defender, skipped beyond another, and calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

Nigerian Forward Provides Assist For Griezmann

Atletico maintained their dominance after halftime. Lookman turned provider in the 62nd minute, bursting through the middle before setting up Antoine Griezmann, who curled a superb strike into the top-right corner.

Substitute Thiago Almada completed the rout in the 83rd minute, reacting quickly after Baena’s shot was parried by Adrian.

Griezmann Praises Lookman’s Seamless Integration

Griezmann spoke about Lookman’s immediate impact and smooth adaptation to the squad.

“We are a team, a dressing room, a club and a fan base that are very easy-going. Anyone who joins us is welcomed with open arms from the very first second, and we can see that with Lookman. Let’s enjoy him and hope he brings us joy,” he said.

Atletico Reach Copa Del Rey Semi-Finals

Atletico Madrid’s emphatic victory secures their place in the semi-finals alongside Barcelona, Athletic Bilbao, and Real Sociedad. The draw will be held at the Luis Aragonés Hall in Las Rozas to determine the matchups for the remaining teams.
