French President Emmanuel Macron awarded Pharrell Williams the Légion d’Honneur in Paris. The ceremony took place at the Élysée Palace during Paris Fashion Week. The Légion d’Honneur is France’s highest national honour, recognising contributions to culture and public life.
The presentation followed France’s 2025 honours announcement. Attendees included music artist Future and LVMH chairman Bernard Arnault, placing Williams among global figures recognised by the French state.
From First Drum to Global Stage
Macron highlighted Williams’ early musical journey during his address.
“At an early age, you discovered music, which set the rhythm of your days,” the president said. “Your grandmother gave you your first instrument, a snare drum.”
He went on to reference Williams’ global influence.
“Its rhythm spread and you became the man who made the world dance in unison,” Macron stated.
Fashion, Music, and Modern Influence
Macron also praised Williams’ work in fashion, particularly his role at Louis Vuitton.
“The world discovered the silhouettes you had imagined,” he said, referencing Williams’ debut collection shown on the Pont Neuf.
Williams continues to direct Louis Vuitton’s menswear division while remaining active across music and visual art. His latest Paris Fashion Week presentation merged runway design with live orchestral performance and previews of unreleased music.
