Manchester City have completed the £20 million signing of Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, with the England international sealing a long-term move to the Etihad Stadium after agreeing personal terms.
Long-Term Deal
Guehi, 25, passed a medical on Sunday and has signed a five-and-a-half-year contract with the Premier League champions. He had attracted interest from several top European clubs and was close to joining Liverpool last summer before that move fell through.
Palace Captain
A graduate of Chelsea’s academy, Guehi joined Palace from Swansea in 2021 and went on to make 188 appearances for the club. He featured 33 times this season, helping Palace compete in the Conference League for the first time and establishing himself as one of the league’s most consistent defenders.
City’s Injury Response
City stepped up negotiations earlier this month following injuries to key centre-backs Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias. Guehi’s arrival provides immediate depth and experience as Pep Guardiola’s side navigate a demanding schedule.
Guehi’s Proven Quality
Statistically, Guehi has ranked among the Premier League’s standout centre-backs over the past two seasons, placing in the top 10 for clean sheets, duels won, aerial success, and line-breaking passes. He also offers leadership credentials, having captained Palace to an FA Cup final victory over City last May.
Player Reaction and International Pedigree
“I’m really happy and incredibly proud to become a City player,” Guehi said. “This move feels like the culmination of all the hard work I’ve put into my career. I’m now at the best club in England and part of an unbelievable squad.”
Guehi also played a key role in England’s run to the Euro 2024 final, further underlining his readiness for the step up to one of Europe’s elite sides.
