AFCON - Mali End Morocco’s Record Winning Run

Morocco’s world-record winning streak came to an end after a 1–1 draw with Mali in their Africa Cup of Nations Group A clash on Friday.

Hosts Morocco saw their run of 19 straight victories halted as Mali battled back to earn a deserved point, delaying the Atlas Lions’ early qualification for the knockout stage.

First-Half Breakthrough And Mali Response

Morocco took the lead in first-half stoppage time when Brahim Díaz converted from the penalty spot. The decision followed a VAR review that ruled Nathan Gassama had handled the ball while attempting to get up.

Mali levelled midway through the second half, also from the penalty spot. Lassine Sinayoko calmly converted after VAR awarded the visitors a spot-kick, ensuring the contest finished level.

Morocco remains top of Group A with four points but has yet to secure progression. Mali and Zambia sit just behind on two points, while Comoros trails with one point.

Despite dropping points, Morocco is still unbeaten in the tournament. The draw also ended another remarkable run, marking the first goal they have conceded in 11 matches.
