Cameroon Edge Gabon 1–0 in Group F

Five-time champions Cameroon opened their AFCON 2025 campaign with a narrow 1–0 win over Gabon in Agadir on Wednesday.

Match Highlights

Cameroon struck early through Karl Etta Eyong, who finished calmly after Bryan Mbeumo latched onto a long ball from Samuel Kotto and played him through. The goal was checked by VAR and allowed to stand.

Gabon struggled early and made a bold move in the 33rd minute, introducing Mario Lemina and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Aubameyang came on despite pre-match injury concerns as the Panthers looked for momentum.

Gabon improved after the break and went close when Royce Openda forced a strong save from Devis Epassy. Cameroon nearly doubled their lead, but substitute Frank Magri’s header from a corner struck the crossbar.

Context And Absentees

The win came amid a turbulent build-up for Cameroon, who recently replaced coach Marc Brys with David Pagou. Andre Onana and Vincent Aboubakar were notable absentees.

Gabon face Mozambique on Sunday, while Cameroon take on defending champions Ivory Coast in Marrakech.
