Disney CEO Warns Netflix–Warner Bros Deal May Not Be Healthy For Streaming

Disney CEO Bob Iger has voiced serious concern over Netflix’s plan to buy Warner Bros. Discovery. He warned the deal could reshape streaming in ways that “might not necessarily be healthy.”

The agreement is worth about $82.7 billion in cash and stock. Netflix will gain Warner Bros. studios, HBO, and HBO Max through the planned merger. The move brings hits like Harry Potter, DC films, and Game of Thrones to Netflix.

Iger urged regulators to study the deal closely. He told CNBC: “Will one company end up with pricing leverage… that might not necessarily be healthy?”  He said Disney has not chosen a side in the competition.

Warner Bros. Discovery will spin off its TV and news networks first. Approval from regulators and shareholders is expected by late 2026.

Paramount Skydance has also submitted a rival offer for the company.

Iger noted possible effects on creators and cinemas already facing industry pressure.

Warner Bros. Discovery is moving forward with the sale to reduce heavy debt. The company also wants a simpler structure for future competition. Executives believe the decision will unlock value for shareholders and strengthen long-term growth.
