Barcelona Midfielder Fermín López Out For Two Weeks With Calf Injury

FC Barcelona announced on Thursday that 22-year-old midfielder Fermín López will be sidelined for approximately two weeks due to a calf muscle injury.

According to the club statement, López sustained a “small injury to the soleus muscle in his right leg”.  As a result, he will miss upcoming La Liga fixtures against Deportivo Alavés, Atlético Madrid, and Real Betis.  He is also in doubt for the club’s next UEFA Champions League match at home to Eintracht Frankfurt, scheduled for December 9.

López had been enjoying a strong run under coach Hansi Flick. Since returning from his injury in late September, he has scored five goals and set up four others in six matches. Lopez played 46 times for Flick last season as Barcelona won a domestic treble.

The club described the injury as minor and expects a straightforward recovery. “Fermín has a small injury … his estimated recovery time is around two weeks,” the statement read.

This marks another setback for Barcelona’s midfield options, as López joins other sidelined players such as Pedri, Gavi, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
