Slimcase, has addressed the recent social media backlash following a viral video of him prostrating to younger colleague Burna Boy.
Speaking to Hiptv, Slimcase clarified that his action was not born out of weakness or submission to Burna Boy but a gesture of deep respect. He said people misunderstood his intention, explaining that it was a symbolic act rather than a personal one.
“I’m not prostrating to Burna Boy; I’m prostrating to the Grammy to the first African that performed at the Grammy,” he said.
According to Slimcase, his gesture carried spiritual meaning. He said he wanted to tap into the same grace that Burna Boy received by performing on the Grammy stage.
“I want that same grace on Burna. It’s spiritual. At the end of the day, he has been where I’ve never been. He is my father musically, but physically, I’m older than him.”
The singer also spoke about his upcoming project, revealing that he plans to release a new EP titled Water to Wine next year. Slimcase added that the body of work will mark a bold return to rap, a genre he feels has been missing from Nigeria’s mainstream sound.
“I don’t know what is going on with rap these days,” he said. “I’m going to bring rap back with my EP, Water to Wine.”
