Shakira and The Weeknd have joined the newly established FIFA Global Citizen Education board. The two icons will be leading a $100 million fundraising campaign. The initiative aims to expand educational access for underserved children worldwide in advance of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Latin pop star and the Canadian music icon will collaborate with a board that includes high-profile figures such as Ivanka Trump, Hugh Jackman, Serena Williams, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, and Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evans.
Infantino emphasized the partnership’s significance: “Education is the foundation for a better future, and this initiative will transform lives in communities around the world.”
The board’s mission is to direct strategic development, leverage celebrity influence, and maximize the impact of the campaign through personal advocacy and broad platform reach.
Evans added, “With leaders like Shakira and The Weeknd, we are mobilizing action to end the global education crisis and build lasting change.”
FIFA and Global Citizen launched a joint initiative to support 100,000 children across more than 200 communities. The campaign is positioned to address the global crisis in which 350 million children are currently out of school, according to Global Citizen.
Board members will guide the allocation of funding to ensure the sustainability of educational programmes in vulnerable regions. This partnership contributes to the momentum for the 2026 World Cup.
